Hnry Stadium pitch report

Hosted the 3rd T20I, where India chased 199 in 13.2 overs. The ground has long straight boundaries and short square ones (about 60 metres, per ANI), and wind is a regular factor. Wellington Regional Stadium has carried the Hnry Stadium name since March 2026.

These are retained venue facts, not a match-day pitch inspection. The surface, boundary placement and toss can change how the match develops; no unsourced ODI average or par score is assigned.

Form before the 2nd ODI

The opener supplies the current ODI evidence. T20I scores are not used as a substitute for 50-over form.

Key match-ups

These are editorial questions to watch, based on the opener rather than a claimed head-to-head statistical record.

Kohli and Gill against the new ball

Kohli's 74 and Gill's 37 anchored the chase in Auckland. Duffy still took three wickets. Our key question is whether New Zealand can separate India's top order before it settles.

New Zealand's batting against India's pace group

Arshdeep, Gurnoor and Kamboj shared nine wickets in the opener. New Zealand's response against that group matters more to this preview than an assumption that the same score will repeat at Wellington.

Captain and vice-captain picks

Editorial choices, conditional on selection: Virat Kohli is our captain option after 74 in the opener. Anshul Kamboj is a vice-captain option after 2/22 in ten overs; a bowler-led choice depends on his confirmed role and the match conditions.

Recheck both names at the toss. The published COME reference describes T20 points; check the current ODI contest rules before applying any multiplier or scoring assumption.

Our prediction

What would change our view

  • A confirmed XI that changes the balance or workload of either attack.
  • A rain forecast that materially reduces the expected number of overs.
  • A pitch inspection or toss outcome that favours a different type of bowling or changes the chase conditions.
